Job Summary:
The Environmental Attorney is responsible for providing legal advice and guidance to support the organization's efforts in environmental science, with a particular focus on agriculture and related areas. This role involves conducting legal research, drafting and reviewing contracts and agreements, representing the organization in legal proceedings, and ensuring compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct legal research and provide expert advice on environmental laws, regulations, and policies affecting the agriculture and environmental science industries.
2. Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents related to environmental matters, including land use, water rights, pollution control, and waste management.
3. Advise internal stakeholders on legal compliance requirements, ensuring adherence to environmental regulations, permits, and licenses.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess potential environmental risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
5. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with external legal counsel, government agencies, and industry associations to stay updated on the latest legal developments and industry best practices.
6. Represent the organization in legal proceedings related to environmental matters, including administrative hearings, settlement negotiations, and litigation.
7. Provide guidance on environmental impact assessments and environmental due diligence for new projects and acquisitions.
8. Stay abreast of emerging environmental laws and regulations and assess their impact on the organization's operations.
9. Conduct training sessions for employees to increase awareness and understanding of environmental laws, regulations, and corporate policies.
10. Maintain accurate and organized legal records, including case files, contracts, and legal correspondence.
Qualifications:
1. Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
2. Admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction.
3. Minimum of X years of experience practicing environmental law, preferably with a focus on agriculture and environmental science.
4. In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental laws, regulations, and policies.
5. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex legal issues and provide practical solutions.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey legal concepts to both legal and non-legal audiences.
7. Demonstrated experience in drafting and negotiating contracts and other legal documents.
8. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
9. Sound judgment and strong ethical standards with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
10. Experience representing clients in legal proceedings related to environmental matters is highly desirable.
11. Proficiency in using legal research tools and technology.
